1) The ratio of the number of pears to the number of oranges is 8 : 5. After 70 pears were found to be rotten and thrown away, the ratio becomes 1 : 5. What is the total total number of pears and oranges at first?

2) At a certain class library, the ratio of the number of fiction books to the number of non-fiction books was 4 : 3 while the ratio of the number of non-fiction books to magazines was 1 : 2.
(a) What was the ratio of the number of fiction books to the ratio of the number of non-fiction books to the ratio of the number of magazines?
(b) The library received a donation of 20 fiction books. The new ratio of the number of fiction to the number of non-fiction became 2 : 1. How many books and magazines would the class library have altogether in the end?

3) At first, Matthew has twice as many soccer cards as Ivan. Each of them then bought the same number of cards. As a result, both of them now have 160 cards in total. If Matthew now has 30 more cards than Ivan, find the number of cards each of them have bought.

Ans :- Each of them bought 35 cards.

4) Farmer Wong had a total of 6600 geese and turkeys. There were 780 more geese than turkeys. After selling 950 turkeys and buying some geese, the final ratio of the number of turkeys to that of the number of geese is 1 : 3. How many geese did he buy?

Ans :- Farmer Wong bought 2190 geese.

5) An MRT train set off from the first station with some passengers on board. The ratio of the number of men to that of women was 5 : 3. At the 2nd station, 37 of the men and some women alighted. The ratio of the number of men to women then became 10 : 7. At the 3rd station, 70 men and 196 women got on the train and the number of men was the same as the number of women.
(a) How many passengers were there on board the train when it set off from the first station?
(b) How many women alighted at the second station?

6) Keane bought some marbles and gave half of them to Leon. Leon bought some stamps and gave half of them to Keane.
Keane used 5 stamps and Leon gave away 11 marbles. The ratio of the number of stamps to the number of marbles Keane had left then became 1 : 7 and the ratio of the number of stamps to the number of marbles Leon had left became 1 : 5. How many stamps did Leon buy?
